Part of the licensing process in Lenexa requires 12 CEUs per year to maintain a license. I routinely exceed that. I enjoy finding techniques that benefit my clients.
Massage Cupping, aka Negative Pressure Massage - VacuTherapy
I am proud to announce the completion of continuing education training in the Art of Massage Cupping –Levels 1 & 2 through A.C.E (Advanced Continuing Education) located in Asheville, NC.
What is Massage Cupping Therapy?
It is a gentle non-invasive technique that achieves powerful results using cups attached to a manual pump (or various plastic or silicone cups) which lifts the muscle and tissue.

Bronson Arroyo, starting pitcher with the Cincinnati Reds says, “When parking the cups, any deep work after that is less painful. Moving the cups around slowly pulls tightness out of the area.”

One of the most amazing aspects of this technique is the ability to separate tissue layers. This allows for water absorption and renews blood flow to dehydrated undernourished tissue.
What is Massage Cupping and how is it accomplished? A glass, plastic or silicone cup is placed over the area of the body to be treated. Suction is created, usually with a vacuum pump, lifting the tissue (skin, fascia, muscles) up. It literally puts a handle on the belly of the muscle and lifts it up versus the usual methods that push the muscles down and into bone. The suction levels can very from light to heavy, and movement of the cups can be sedating or stimulating.
Techniques used including "Stationary cups" parking a cup in one area and leaving it for 1-3 minutes depending upon the desired effect, "Flash cupping" using several cups in rotation - on and off - around the area, and "Moving cups" moving cups over an area in a wavelike motion. Each technique has various applications.

I have found this treatment to be so very effective. Most clients love it. Communication is essential since there can be some discomfort depending upon the restrictions found. I keep discomfort to a minimum by adjusting the pressure of the suction and building pressure slowly to stay within your pain tolerance. Great work can be done without causing pain. Try it, you might just love it too.
